The 2010 Blacksburg Rugby Youth Skills Clinic will be held Saturday, 6 November, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Blacksburg Rugby Match Ground (200 Block of Country Club Drive Southwest near S. Main Street; Behind Kroger Supermarket on South Main Street) The clinic will be headed by Blacksburg Rugby Head Coach Perry Pence, who is certified as a trained coach by USA Rugby.
There is no charge to participate. All area youth from preschool to early teens are welcome to attend. (Participants will be grouped by age range.) Parents are welcome to participate in the clinic, observe, or drop off their children and pick them up when the clinic ends. Parents will need to complete a brief information form and a read and sign brief participation agreement and waiver of liability when they bring their children to the clinic. These documents can be downloaded from this page in advance and submitted upon arrival at the clinic.
Clinic participants will take part in the clinic in groups assembled by age range, where they will learn basic skills associated with rugby (passing, catching, kicking, etc.) from a group of coaches. There will be no tackling or rough physical contact. Participants will also take part in short touch/tag rugby games at the end of the clinic.
Participants will need to arrive wearing workout/exercise clothes (shorts, t-shirt, track suit/sweat suit, etc.; Dress appropriately for the weather) and running shoes/soccer shoes. Participants may also want to bring drinking water or juice and a snack, though some water and snacks will be provided.
Participants are encouraged to pre-register for the clinic using this online form, but walk-ins are welcome.
