Blacksburg Rugby

The talented prospects who make up Blacksburg's developmental side enjoyed a productive hit-out in the form of an intrasquad exhibition match at Blacksburg's home "Rose Garden" match ground.

While no official score was kept, the match was played under competitive match conditions to provide valuable match experience for developing Blacksburg players. Despite its exhibition status, the contest proved an exciting one. Standing out for Blacksburg among a number of strong showings was halfback Matthew McCarthy, who capped a man-of-the-match outing with a great individual try on a kick-and-chase late in the match. McCarthy is one of a large contingent of players in the developmental side who are enrolled in the Edward Via Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine.

The strong play from Blacksburg's developmental side will hopefully inspire the Blacksburg first-grade side, which takes on Blackwater tomorrow.
